Manage Your Lawn & Garden Weeds - Don't Let Them Manage You

Fighting with weeds is an age old problem. You may never actually win the war with weeds but you can try to bring them under control. When you start a new garden plot, try to make sure that it is already as weed free as possible.

You want to always get that soil off on the right foot. You might need to spray the plot with Roundup weed killer or some type chemical. Allow it to set for the amount of time it says in the instructions. When the time is up you will be ready to seed.

You want to start off with a seed that is as weed free as it can possibly be. Granted, this seed is going to cost more money but do not get tempted to use a cheaper seed. They are cheaper because they are not weed free. Therefore, they will be in a race with your backyard to see if they can produce more weeds than plant life. In the end, you will work harder and spend more money. That does not sound like a good trade off to me. You will spend more weekends and more money trying to get rid of all those weeds that you could have avoided. Bottom line, use the good seeds from the start, your wallet and your back will appreciate it.

If you have a garden area or perhaps a small lawn area, you can lay down weed control fabric. All this really is, to make it simple, is lightweight pieces of cloth that works to reduce weeds. They block the sunlight and heat from reaching the soil. They also form a blanket that will deter some weeds from getting through.

Weed control fabrics come in different widths and come in big rolls. Just measure what you think you will need and go. Once you have laid your weed control fabric down you may then lay down your weed free soil. After the weed free soil, you can plant the weed free seeds.

Now, if you already have a lawn and garden and are trying to fight weeds, you can use a pre emergent herbicide. This is a weed killer that kills the weeds when they are seeds, before they grow. If you do these things it will help you in two ways. First, you won't be spending all of your weekends pulling weeds that have grown wild and taken over. Second, it will keep the weed population down. They will have very little opportunity to grown underground because you have taken the proper measures to prevent it.

There are many types of weeds to deal with. Regardless of what some people may tell you, it does help to pull weeds. You just have to make sure you pull them out by the roots. It will help to keep the population down. It's all about the care, work ethic and consistency. It's about spending a little more up front to help you a little down the road. As long as you follow the simple weed free directions, and don't get tempted, you will spend more time enjoying your yard and garden, then breaking your back pulling weeds that could have been avoided.
